Meet Tonya Cooper
My work has always centered on art and visual communication, from professional graphic design and photography to teaching students how to understand and create art of their own. After many years in the design field, I found another way to share that experience through education. Today, those two sides of my background continue to shape the way I teach and the resources I help create for Hope Creek Studios.

Tonya L.S. Cooper
Art Teacher • Graphic Designer • Photographer
I spent more than 30 years working in graphic design and photography, including senior design positions and projects for a variety of organizations. My work has included print design, promotional materials, visual communication, and photography, giving me opportunities to explore how images and design can communicate ideas to different audiences.
I earned my degree cum laude from Roberts Wesleyan College. Although my professional background began in design, teaching eventually became an important part of my journey. After volunteering in my children's school, I discovered how rewarding it was to work with students and share my love of art.
My Approach to Art Education
I believe art education should give students more than a finished project. It should help them learn to observe, understand artistic choices, practice techniques, and develop the skills to create with confidence.
I'm particularly drawn to classical art education, including the study of art history and the work of the great masters. I enjoy helping students look closely at artwork, learn from artists who came before them, and apply those ideas in their own work.
My experience in design and photography also shapes my teaching. Composition, visual communication, craftsmanship, and thoughtful decision-making are important parts of both professional design and learning to make art. I want students to have opportunities to explore those connections while building skills they can use in future projects.
Bringing Experience to Hope Creek Studios
Today, I bring my background in professional design, photography, and classroom teaching to Hope Creek Studios. Working alongside my daughter, Emmie, allows us to combine our different experiences and perspectives as we develop art lessons and resources for teachers.
We want to help educators bring art history, artistic techniques, and meaningful creative experiences into their classrooms through resources that are thoughtfully designed and practical to use.
A Selection of My Design Work
My design portfolio includes projects in branding, print, publication, and large-format design. Each project offers a different opportunity to explore how visual choices can communicate an idea and connect with an audience.
